Lower Dacum Farm ...

is a 21-acre farm, surrounded by its own land, in a peaceful, private and quiet situation, with uninterrupted views over open moorland; some of which is designated as a Site of Scientific Interest..

We believe that the farm dates back to the early 1800s & is shown on the Tithe map of 1843. In the 19th century, the area contained a number of tin mines & some of the engine houses remain close by. There is evidence that tin streaming & shallow mine working took place in some of our fields. The grassy lane that runs between our fields used to be the main road to the old school on the moor.

We have lived here for the last 17 years, during which time we have been renovating the farmhouse, (although this seems a never-ending task!) & have made significant improvements to the land & facilities. We have two large fields available for camping & others for dog-walking, kite-flying, football, rounders, frisbees & other such activities! Some of the farmland is used by our neighbours for sileage & hay-making.

The farm is a haven for wildlife: owls, kestrels, buzzards & other birds of prey are regularly seen overhead. Foxes, weasels, rabbits & even pheasants can often be seen. Swallows & housemartins nest in the barn. In spring & summer, the hedgerows are alive with different plants & colours. The farm also has a large conservation area, with woodland, sub-tropical plants and a large pond containing trout, frogs, toads & newts. This is a quiet area where you can relax during daylight hours & provides dappled shade on sunny days. This area is frequented by herons, ducks, geese, badgers, dragonflies & mayflies & there have even been some otter sightings. For families with children, we have various books & educational resources for your use.

There are several footpaths & bridleways near the farm & a number of different walks & cycle rides are possible without having to take out your car.
